Failure during update SharePoint Sp2

Today I updated a few machines to SP2 almost all went without a problem only my development machine had trouble.

Offcourseif you read my earlier post on sp2 you followed the exact steps first wss sp2 and then moss sp2.

Everything went well till I had to run the config wizard.

It started ok but around step 8/9 it slowed down and gave me this screen at the end

An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown. Additional exception information: Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies. Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException: Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfigurationTaskException' was thrown.

After a little investigating in the log I found that the search service was not running when I tried to start them I got a error Invalid login failure as shown here.

I reenterd my credentials and started the service no problem. I started searching the web and I came over this in a forum

After doing these steps everything started working again I had to start the service a again and create a new search db but all setting were

Retained.

Hope this helps when you are getting the same error…

I saw a very similar issue, the Search Service was hung while stopping. rebooted server, stopped service manually and update ran fine.

Tried that as well but it did not run at my place. It could be a good solution. As the update stops the service as well. But problem is getting it back up running.

We have similar problems and I have done your step, still the problem exist. I also done re-creating the WSS search database and run the config, still the problem exist.
